Award History
Frederick D. Woodbridge was a member of the Princeton University Class of 1982 in whose memory an award for public service has been established. The award was inaugurated at the Class's 10th reunion and is given every 5 years. With this award, we recognize the classmate whose achievements exemplify Woodrow Wilson’s memorable phrase “Princeton in the Nation’s Service.” The award honors the individual who not only excels in a particular field, but has made a lasting and significant contribution to their community, the nation or the world in any area of endeavor. Past winners include Pat Horvath (at the 10th), for his tireless work with the homeless of New York City; Scott Oostdyk (at the 15th) for his community service and outstanding public service in Virginia; Dale Caldwell (at the 20th) for his commitment to improving lives in disadvantaged communities in Newark, NJ; Eve Thompson (at the 25th) for her contributions to enhancing democratic governance and leadership internationally; and Burns Stanfield (at the 30th) for his transformative work with marginalized youth and poor communities in the Greater Boston area.
